We are working to reduce the use of herbicides that harm pollinators and humans, including glyphosate. We have launched the Talent Elementary Pollinator Project, a one-year pilot project that has eliminated 100% of herbicides on school grounds and that will provide pollinator-friendly workshops for pre-K through grade 5 children.
Our Talent Elementary School monthly "Gardening Party" series began on Friday, June 20th, 2014. More than two dozen adult volunteers weeded, pruned, and mulched beds that had formerly been sprayed with synthetic pesticides. At the same time, we entertained and educated two dozen children (and adults!) with pollinator activities. “Little Pollinator” activities included: weeding raised beds, adding worms, and planting corn seedlings; singing pollinator-friendly songs led by Talent’s singer-songwriter Sage Meadows; rolling beeswax candles from honeycomb; releasing 1,500 ladybugs; and, most importantly, exploring the garden!
Our Garden Parties happen each month in July, August, September, and October.
