City managers were already making moves to create a more pollinator-friendly environment before Ashland gained its official Bee City USA designation on January 13: "Ashland joins Talent as a Bee City"

Both the Ashland City Council and the Parks & Recreation Department approved going forward with the designation at their October 20, 2014 Study Sessions, and the Council formally approved the motion at its December 12, 2014 Council Meeting.

Two members of Pollinator Project of Rogue Valley made a presentation to the Ashland Mayor and City Council on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, requesting that the Council adopt a resolution to designate Ashland a Bee City USA.

Bee City USA began in Asheville, NC, and encourages city leaders to raise awareness about the contributions bees and other pollinators make in our world. The organization is encouraging all municipalities to foster practices to support our pollinators, including reduction or elimination of pesticides, and maintaining plantings and areas friendly to pollinators.

Thank you, Bee City USA!
